Prior to the arrival of our new professional, club chairman Neal Wilkinson asked Ernest Kemm a few questions on his cricketing career to date as an overseas player in England and Ireland.
NW What where the circumstances that resulted in you playing for Havant as 16 year old?
In 2005, my family was looking at emigrating to the UK. So in my school holidays I would go over to Havant and play cricket for them. I knew it would benefit my game massively to play in different conditions from a young age. In 2006 while being over in the UK, I got lucky enough to crack an invite to play for Sussex 2nd XI, in games against Durham and Hampshire.
NW How did things go for you both on and off the field in your stint as pro for Bready in Ireland?
My year in Bready was really special. First year as a professional, a little unsure of what to expect but I loved my time there. Ireland is a beautiful country , I enjoyed the countryside and also the people. On the field, playing on tricky pitches and having the extra pressure to perform, I believe made me a more flexible cricketer that hopefully helps me this season at Bacup.
NW How did you get on at Middleton?
In my 2 years at Middleton, I learned that the team is as good as the amateur players. By using my knowledge I would like to improve and help every player.
NW What do you know about Bacup and the cricket club?
All I know about Bacup is there is a beautiful little golf course. Honestly don't know much about the club. Going there with an open mind.
NW What's family life like for you?
My loving parents have been married for 28 years and have always been my biggest supporters. I'm the oldest of 3. My sister (24), recently married, teaches primary school. My brother (22), works as a game ranger in a big 5 game reserve.
NW What are you hoping to get out of this season at Bacup?
I'm hoping to have fun with my team and enjoy the beautiful game of cricket and in doing so play good cricket.
Ernest is due to arrive in England on Saturday with his first match the following day away to Burnley CC.
On behalf of Bacup CC, Neal and the rest of the committee, players and supporters would like to wish him all the best in the forthcoming season.
