Passing of club stalwart Alan Whittaker

Bacup CC are deeply saddened to announce the passing away of club stalwart Alan Whittaker who served the club with great distinction and integrity for almost 40 years.

Alan, an accountant by profession, was a major influence in keeping the club on the straight and narrow throughout his period of long service.

He first joined the committee in the early 50's when the great Everton Weekes was professional. He later served as both secretary and treasurer before assuming the role of chairman. After many years of service he finally stepped down in 1990. However, he continued to follow the fortunes of the club closely and offer generous support.

Alan was also a trustee of the club and an honorary life member. We give thanks for the tremendous contribution he made.

Funeral details will be released shortly.
